The Danish Centre for Expertise in Rheumatology is an independent centre at Danish Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases where research and bridge building come together for the benefit of both patients and society

The Danish Centre for Expertise in Rheumatology is based at the Department of Regional Health Research (IRS) at SDU.

The Research Unit at the Danish Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases is well established and consists of a clinical professor as medical research leader, two professors in rheumatological rehabilitation, a medical associate professor, two senior researchers, a number of PhD students, research assistants, research nurse, research radiographer and secretary.

Funding from the Danish Rheumatism Association in 2018 allowed for the employment of the country’s first two professors in rheumatological rehabilitation, with a view to strengthening research in rehabilitation. The research unit is anchored under the Department of Regional Health Research (IRS) at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), where the researchers are also employed part-time. At the unit, they undertake teaching and supervision of master’s and PhD students enrolled at SDU.

The two professors in rheumatological rehabilitation are also engaged 20% at Sygehus Sønderjylland and 30% at the Spenshult research unit, Halmstad, Sweden.

With its history and research tradition in the investigation, treatment and rehabilitation of people with inflammatory arthritis, Danish Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases provides a strong professional and research foundation for the establishment and operation of The Danish Centre for Expertise in Rheumatology , with a special focus on patients with inflammatory arthritis.
